FMIPA UNS – Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum is pleased to inaugurate the Bird Conservatory in the garden of the Faculty of Mathematics and Science (FMIPA) UNS on Wednesday (29/09/2021) to coincide with the 25th Anniversary of FMIPA UNS. It is hoped that the existence of the Bird Conservatory can be a means and effort to preserve endangered birds that are protected by taking into account the benefits of maintenance, captivity, and relevant conservation systems.

For the initial stage, five pairs of Bali Starlings have been prepared. The Bali Starling was chosen because this bird is one of the protected animals based on the Decree of the Minister of Agriculture No. 421/KPTS/UM/8/1970.

It should be noted that the procurement of five pairs of Bali Starlings is inseparable from cooperation with third parties, in this case Bank Jateng. The leadership of Bank Jateng’s Surakarta Coordinator Branch, Djaka Nur Sahid, greatly appreciates and strongly supports the existence of this Bird Conservatory  .

“The activities carried out by FMIPA ( Bird Conservatory ) are extraordinary, so as UNS partners we really support the activities and programs launched by the rector,” said Djaka on the sidelines of the inauguration.

Meanwhile, the Chancellor thanked Bank Jateng for providing assistance to the Bali Starling through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNS in order to preserve and avoid the Bali Starling extinction. [MnR/MIPA]
