Biology Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Sebelas Maret was established to produce scientists and researchers who have high academic quality. Graduates of the Biology Study Program of the Doctoral Program are expected to be able to manage and utilize natural resources (SDA) wisely, considering the abundance of natural resources. The proposed establishment of the Biology Study Program for the Doctoral Program was approved by the Opening Permit No.453/KPT/1/2017 based on the Decree of the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia. Biology Study Program The Doctoral Program was established by looking at the progress of science and technology (IPTEK) which is increasingly developing demanding the role of scientists and researchers, to have high motivation and work ethic as well as adequate academic quality. Apart from scientists and researchers, bureaucrats, industrialists, and decision makers also feel that these qualifications are needed.

The Biology Study Program of the Doctoral Program is expected to produce quality human resources (HR) for the development of science and technology as well as sustainable and wise management of biological resources. Biology Study Program The Doctoral Program plays a role in research and development of Bioproducts and Bioconservation which will later be beneficial in the fields of agriculture, health, environment, and industry, including cancer drugs, enzyme production, probiotics as well as beneficial in managing biodiversity wisely and sustainably. Given the benefits and important role of the Biology Study Program for the Doctoral Program, the establishment of this study program is a priority for UNS. UNS as one of the universities that has a very good reputation, actively contributes graduates who have superior qualifications.

The vision of the Biology Study Program of the Doctoral Program is in line with the vision of the Biology Study Program of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNS, which is to become a higher education institution in the field of biology that is competitive at national and international levels and the vision of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UNS is to become an educational institution that excels in the fields of basic and applied sciences at the university level. national and international; and in line with the vision of UNS, which is to become a center for the development of superior science, technology, and art at the international level based on the noble values ​​of national culture.

1. Implement education and teaching in order to graduate a doctor of biology who has integrity and mastery of knowledge and skills.
2. Carrying out basic and applied research containing novelty, in the field of bioproducts and bioconservation.
3. Carry out community service activities to apply the results of innovations in the field of bioproducts and bioconservation.
4. Develop networks through collaboration with professional organizations and other institutions (national, regional and international levels) to strengthen the advantages of doctoral study programs in the field of biology in general, as well as bioproducts and bioconservation in particular.

The objective of the Biology Study Program of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UNS is to organize a doctoral education program through a series of learning processes so as to produce graduates with competencies that refer to Presidential Regulation Number 8 of 2012 concerning the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI), which include:

1. Produce doctors who have mastery of the philosophy of biology with high integrity, are professional, creative, and innovative in the fields of bioproducts and bioconservation with novelty values.
2. Creating an institution that acts as a reference center in the fields of education and research on bioproducts and bioconservation.
