Welcome to the web page of the Bioscience Masters Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surakarta. An appreciation for us, for your visit on this page. The progress of science and technology (IPTEK), which is increasingly developing, demands the role of scientists and researchers to have high motivation and work ethic as well as adequate academic quality. We hope to produce quality graduates with scientific works of international reputation supported by superior human resources (HR) and adequate laboratory facilities.

Universitas Sebelas Maret has proclaimed to be a World Class University (WCU). The establishment of the Bioscience Masters Study Program will support the achievement of these goals. The hope in the future is to be able to produce quality human resources (HR) for the development of science and technology and play a role in research, technology development that is useful in various fields of knowledge, especially Bioscience.

The Bioscience Masters Study Program, Universitas Sebelas Maret was established based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Number 4216/D/T/2004, dated 27 October 2004 and obtained an extension permit with a decree on the extension of the operational permit for the first UNS Postgraduate Bioscience Masters Study Program on 17 September 2008 and a permit the second extension with a decree on the extension of the operational permit for the UNS Postgraduate Biosain Masters Study Program dated April 20, 2011. Accredited Rank A from BAN PT: No. SK 6565/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/M/X/2020, from 20 October 2020 to 20 October 2025. The Bioscience Masters Study Program produces superior human resources in the sustainable use, conservation and management of biological resources. This program emphasizes the study of biodiversity at the genetic and species level, especially through a molecular biology approach.

Achievement Strategy

The targets and strategies for achieving the Vision and Mission are set out in the Business Strategic Plan (Renstra) for the 2015-2019 Bioscience Study Program. The 2015-2019 Bioscience Master’s Program Strategic Plan refers to the time phasing of the University and Postgraduate Strategic Plans, namely in Phase II: Acceleration of International Reputation of UNS. The time phasing is in accordance with the time stages carried out by the University, namely: Phase I Target (2010-2014): Acceleration of UNS Autonomy and Independence. Phase II Target (2015-2019): Acceleration of UNS International Reputation. Phase III Goal (2020-2024): UNS Excellence in Asia Pacific. Phase IV Target (2025-2029): UNS Excellence in the World. The Bioscience Master’s Program Restra also refers to the UNS Postgraduate Strategic Plan. In accordance with the Phase II Target (2015-2019): Acceleration of UNS International Reputation, Development of the Master of Bioscience Study Program is focused on improving the quality of the Teaching and Learning Process (PBM), quality research/research oriented to biodiversity with a molecular approach to the development and utilization of biological resources responsibly towards accelerating the achievement of UNS’ international reputation. Based on the mission and objectives that have been formulated, the Postgraduate Bioscience Study Program at UNS sets the following goals and achievement strategies:

  1. Providing knowledge, basic and applied science knowledge as well as knowledge, attitudes, skills and abilities to carry out good research in the field of biodiversity with a molecular approach, especially at the gene and species level.
  2. Improve understanding of theory and mastery of scientific methods in the field of biodiversity, especially in research related to development in various aspects of life, for example in agriculture, medicine, and animal husbandry, so that graduates of the Master of Bioscience Study Program can become reliable researchers in the field of applied biology with a background deep theoretical knowledge.
  3. Improve the ability to analyze problems in depth and conduct research at a more comprehensive level and be able to express their thoughts in scientific works in accredited journals or journals of reputation, as well as present scientific works at national seminars or international conferences.
  4. Provide provision of knowledge and abilities as well as intermediate level skills to carry out research in the context of study to a higher level of education (S3).
  5. The Master of Bioscience Study Program provides quality education in accordance with the National Higher Education Standards and meets the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework by showing a master’s level 8 qualification, including qualifications: Able to develop knowledge, technology, and/or art in their scientific field or professional practice through research, to produce innovative and tested work. Able to solve problems of science, technology, and/or art in the field of science through an inter or multidisciplinary approach. Able to manage research and development that is beneficial to science and society, and able to gain national and international recognition.
